What is Truth?

Dear Friends
I have taken the first tentative steps towards a long and potentially life changing journey...The journey to get my Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA).

Although I had to jump through several challenging hoops to get selected on the staff cohort it feels as if I have been working my whole life towards this point. Thus I see this as an opportunity to consolidate my life experience, refine my thinking and writing skills, and enhance my teaching practice.

My background is accounting / auditing / consulting especially in a not-for-profit / international NGO environment. So at this early stage I am thinking about examining the relationship between trust and accounting in a not-for-profit context.

The DBA will begin with prescriptive courses such as research methodology. I requested some summer reading and Sophie’s World was suggested. I have just completed it and although it is children’s introduction to philosophy I have emerged a wiser and more thoughtful ‘child’.  The author Jostein Gaardner has to be congratulated for packing approximately 2,500 of western thought into 500 odd pages. My appetite has been whetted and I am really looking forward to the first DBA assignment – What is the truth?

As the great Chinese Philosopher Lao Tzu several thousand years ago:

“A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step.”

Thanks
